The Rock Painting Project was initiated to encourage community involvement in preparation for the RockView Older Adults Club 20th Anniversary.
We are so pleased with the number of individuals who chose to get involved - both experienced and first time painters!
As part of the 20th Anniversary Celebration these rocks will be presented with the following Gratitude Prayer:
This is a Gratitude Prayer to The Creator for this beautiful and safe part of the world we live in.
Gratitude to The Creator for this land we stand on
and for this land on which our home is built.
A Home where we are neighbours, friends and family.
A Home where we can share and support each other.
Gratitude to The Creator for allowing us to care for this land.
Gratitude to those individuals who choose to create and maintain these beautiful gardens in front and along the side building, including the Serenity Garden, and the garden boxes we have beyond the apartment complex.
As individuals we appreciate the mental stress of planning and the benefits of beauty created by each garden.
We appreciate the physical toll and energy release of a job well done.
Socially the gardens provide a place to sit quietly
or to gather and share laughter and stories.
Gratitude to The Creator for our personal skills and abilities.
We have chosen to honour this event and this land by using some of the rocks available to us
by transforming them with our painting skills.
Though there are plenty of rocks available here in Sudbury,
some we have used as our canvas also came from
Manitoulin Island, Marathon, and even Scotland.
We will be placing these rocks beside the gardens and along the paths in this complex we call home, but not today.
We will plan another day when the rain has stopped and the sun shines to guide us.
If you have not already noticed, be sure to take a moment
after these presentations to see our display carefully placed above the pool table.
In gratitude to The Creator
I say Miigwech, Merci and Thank You.

The experience of this project created a friendly social time which we would like to develop and continue in the fall. The craft / art activities will include the rock painting and any other creative endeavours the individuals who are involved can suggest. We will learn, experiment and create together.
Will you join us? Posters will be posted when we plan to begin.
